Sine, Cosine, and Tangent Ratios

Spring break brought out the creative juices. I spent time reworking guided notes sheets from last year into Vizual Notes this year. I like how they turned out.

The Tangent Ratio

Sine and Cosine Ratios

I love it when I can start the class with a real world problem and help them arrive at a solution. I introduced this lesson with a clip of my son flying a kite. I said that he had asked me, “Mommy, how high is my kite?” I told him if I took a picture of him flying the kite and all the string was out, I could figure it out.

Solving Right Triangles

This lesson was engaging because it involved zip line photos from a vacation we took last spring break. I asked my students why those zip lining, needed to “torpedo” until they were close to the landing platform. Prior to this, my students had only worked with sine, cosine, and tangent with the angle measures given.
