As a review for the semester 1 final, I created a review centered around deciphering clues. My students are not always good about doing work accurately. Some want to just write down an answer to finish. This several day long activity is designed to promote accuracy.
There are several parts.
Midpoint Challenge
The Midpoint Challenge is a Geogebra activity that randomly generates points and requires them to accurately find the midpoint of ten line segments before the coordinates of a point is revealed. This is one of the four points needed for the Transformations Challenge.
Distance Formula Challenge
The Distance Formula Challenge is another Geogebra activity that randomly generates points and requires students to accurately calculate the distance between the points. Once again, ten correct responses are required before the coordinates of a point is revealed. This is another of the four points needed for the Transformations Challenge.
Linear Challenge
The linear challenge helps them review slope, the equations of lines, and the properties of parallel and perpendicular lines. If done correctly, the intersection of two pairs of lines reveals the final two ordered pairs needed for the Transformations Challenge.
Transformations Challenge
In the Transformations Challenge, students use the four coordinates revealed above to begin creating a picture on a treasure map. Through dilations, rotations, reflections, and translations, letters for the final code are revealed.
Calculations Challenge
The Calculations Challenge has several figures that require them to remember various theorems and postulates to accurately find the value of x. It is a matching activity and some of the letters are used in the final code.
Knowledge Challenge
Knowledge of concepts learned throughout the semester is demonstrated through this challenge. Once again, by correctly matching the problem or concept to its answer or term, the last letters of the final code are revealed.
I hope my students will have fun reviewing for their final. I plan to give out prizes for those who finish first with all the correct answers.
